Medical review

Before publication, medical content on Viktbehandling.se is checked editorially against Swedish guidance and product information. This page explains the process, the sources and what the review does not cover.

How content is fact-checked

Our content is fact-checked according to our editorial policy (Swedish) and draws on sources such as the Swedish Medical Products Agency, 1177 and FASS. This is an editorial review: it checks whether the text agrees with Swedish product information and guidance from the Medical Products Agency, EMA, 1177 and the National Board of Health and Welfare.

The medical assessment is carried out by Dr Masoud Sorkhabi, senior consultant physician. Editorial review is not an individual medical assessment and does not replace a doctor's appointment.

Review process

  1. The editorial team drafts content based on primary sources (see the editorial policy).
  2. An internal editor reviews the structure, readability and language.
  3. Medically sensitive claims are checked against the cited source. A named medical reviewer is shown only on pages where that review is documented.
  4. A final review checks that sources, the medical disclaimer and the update date are included.
  5. Content is reviewed again at least once a year, or sooner if the evidence changes.

Sources used in the review

  • The Swedish Medical Products Agency and FASS for Swedish product information (SmPC).
  • The European Medicines Agency (EMA) for European product information.
  • 1177 Vårdguiden for patient guidance.
  • The National Board of Health and Welfare for national guidance, for example on obesity and diabetes.
  • Peer-reviewed studies in NEJM, The Lancet, JAMA and BMJ for effectiveness and safety data.

Careful wording

The content uses phrases such as “many people experience”, “for some people” and “may”, rather than absolute promises about effectiveness or results. This is deliberate: treatment effects vary between individuals, and the website should not give the impression of providing personal medical advice.

Dates and updates

Articles about treatment or medication show when the content was last updated. The same date appears as dateModified in the structured data for search engines. It shows when the text last changed and does not mean that a doctor reviewed that particular page. A named medical review is shown only where it is documented.

What the review does not provide

  • It is not an individual medical assessment.
  • It does not provide a diagnosis or an individual treatment plan.
  • It does not replace an appointment with a licensed healthcare provider.
  • In an emergency, call 112. For healthcare advice, contact 1177.
